Nescafe offers 3D-printed lid with an alarm clock

In a bid to improve its representation , instant coffee brand Nescafe has developed a new or let me put it this way- one of the hottest recent technologies : 3D printing . A limited run of just two hundred containers to be offered for sale around the globe will feature a snazzy , new 3D-printed cover -- with an alarm time clock inside .

Developed by NotLabs -- the innovative division of NotCot - in collaboration with Publicis Mexico , the unique lid is 3-d imprinted inside and out -- the outside in two designs by Shapeways , and the inside by NotLabs on its Makerbot printing equipment -- and runs on Arduino .

On the underside of the lid is an OLED display screen and a pointing device so that users can program the alarm .

At the designated time , it will wake up the end user with one of 7 soothing sounds , such as bird chirps , along with light patterns that the company promises are "scientifically proven" to be revitalizing .

And there's no flailing an arm out from under the covers in the expectations of hitting a snooze option : The alarm can only be switched off when the lid of the container is untwisted and removed -- prompting , of course , the first coffee of the morning hours .
